City Needs to Recommit to Protect Ka Iwi The Honolulu Advertiser's opinion (Jan. 29) regarding Ka Iwi is best said in their headline "Let future generations enjoy Ka Iwi's beauty" - To that end we now have the state's pledge to do their part via Lingle's administration seeking reclassification of 240 acres of makai Ka Iwi land now what about the City? Can we count on them to uphold their position regarding attempts to build "vacation cabins" on the mauka Ka Iwi lands? We can only hope that the City administration stays the course and will not waiver from their past three rulings of NO to vacation cabin chaos which opens Pandora's box to similar types of development on preservation type 2 lands throughout O'ahu. A few years ago the Mayor came to a town hall meeting held at Kaiser HS where over 300 residents attended -- he stood before us and vowed his support and help to keep Ka Iwi open. His new DPP director, we hope, will not falter. Only time will tell the truth behind the Mayor's pledge -- Gary E.
